Prosthetics in China- Sunday Snapshot

We forget how incredible Lily truly is.
We become so used to her abilities and strengths.
In China, we were the show.
Being foreigners alone draws attention.
But a prosthetic leg.
Those Chinese are freaked out!
Just smile... right?

I forget how unique she is.
And that it's just not something you see everyday.
I would occasionally think to myself,
"Really, come on?! Must they stare?"
And when I say they stare, it's like nothing else matters.
Their eyes lock on her and they keep staring until we are out of sight.

It's hard.
And as she grows it will be incredibly difficult for her.
For now, she thinks she's perfect... and she is.
She probably thinks we're all the weirdo's with two legs.
I feel so blessed to be her big sis!
And to learn everything I do, with her  disability.
But truly, it's no disability, people.
It's an ability!

Oh, Emma, loved this post! I can understand the stares...Luke's province saw very few Americans, so we were quite the show. One lady almost had a bike wreck because she turned around and stared at us!

Lily is beautiful, and you guys are blessed to have her. :)

God bless you!

What a beautiful post & images! She is perfect in every sense of the word & a true blessing from above.

I have never been to China but when I visited Japan long ago I had people coming up to me & touching my face & blonde hair. They were amazed. I found it funny when going by a market & they had 20 variations of hair color- all in one shade- black. It's so interesting to learn about these places that are different from what we are used to.

Love this post! When we were in China, EVERYONE started at us! It is unusual to have so many girls in one family so everyone would stare and point at us :)

Emma, I can soooo relate. We've only been home 2 months with our fourth and we felt the stares more this time than ever. Your daughter is beautiful! Many blessings to your family.

I know that people with disabilities are no different then us! God loves them just the same. I don't like it when people stare at people like Lily just because they are a little bit different!

Beautiful shots!! I can understand your frustration with the staring. But may I say this- living well is the best revenge. So, let them stare at her triumphs. Let them stare at her happiness in spite of the challenges. She will inspire many this way. Big hugs to both of you!!!
